Who operates BuildPath

The contractor whose website you're on is a separate, independent business. They are not part of BuildPath, and BuildPath does not control how they run their business or follow up with you. Throughout this page, "BuildPath" refers only to us as the tool operator — "the contractor" refers to the business whose site you're using.

In short: BuildPath runs the tool you're using right now. The contractor is who you're actually enquiring with, and who will follow up with you.

What BuildPath is (and isn't)

BuildPath is a smart front door for building enquiries. It is not a quoting tool, and nothing it produces is a quote, offer, or fixed price.

Ranges shown are rough ballpark estimates only, based solely on the details you provide.
Final pricing is always confirmed by the contractor after a proper review of your project.
Complex, unclear, or high-risk jobs may be routed to a direct conversation with the contractor instead of receiving an estimated range.

Information BuildPath processes

While you're using the tool, BuildPath's systems process:

Project details you enter (job type, size, location, description, timeline, site access)
Photos you choose to upload of the project or site
Basic technical information about how the tool is used (e.g. which job type was selected), to help improve accuracy over time

This is processed to generate your ballpark range. BuildPath does not need an account, login, or ongoing relationship with you to do this.

If you choose to leave your contact details (name, phone, email) so the contractor can follow up, those details — along with your project information and any photos — are sent on to the contractor. See Your information and the contractor below for what happens from that point.

Why BuildPath processes this information

BuildPath processes the information above to:

Generate a rough ballpark price range based on the details you provide
Pass your enquiry and project details to the relevant contractor, if you choose to leave your details
Improve the accuracy and usefulness of the tool over time

BuildPath does not use your information for advertising, and does not sell it to any third party.

Photos and property images

Photos help the contractor understand your project, but they are optional. Please be mindful of what's in any photo you upload.

Only upload photos relevant to the project. Avoid including people, children, vehicles, number plates, mail, documents, or anything private in the image.

Third-party service providers

BuildPath uses third-party service providers to operate the tool, such as hosting, cloud infrastructure, form/email delivery, storage, payment, and AI processing providers. Some providers may process or store information outside New Zealand. We use reputable providers and configure them, where available, so information is processed only to operate the BuildPath service and not to train public models.

Use of AI processing

BuildPath uses automated AI tools (provided by a third-party AI service provider) to help generate the ballpark range and explanation shown to you, based on the details you enter. A person has not reviewed your specific project at the point the range is generated.

This disclosure is provided as good practice for transparency, to help ensure customers understand how their estimate was produced and to avoid any impression that the range shown is a confirmed or professionally reviewed price.

Your information and the contractor

If you choose to leave your name, phone, and email, this information — along with your project details and any photos — is sent directly to the contractor whose website you used.

Once your enquiry is sent, the contractor is responsible for how they use, store, and respond to the copy of your information they receive. BuildPath remains responsible for any information it continues to hold or process within the BuildPath system.

This means BuildPath cannot action requests (such as deletion) on the contractor's behalf for the copy of information they hold — but BuildPath remains accountable for anything still held or processed on its own systems. If your enquiry has been sent to a contractor and you want something changed, deleted, or corrected on their end, you'll need to contact that contractor directly.

How long information is kept

BuildPath normally keeps enquiry records for up to 90 days for troubleshooting, accuracy review, and contractor handover, unless we need to keep them longer for legal, security, or service reasons. After that, information is deleted or anonymised where practical.

Once your enquiry has been sent to a contractor, how long they keep your information is up to them — BuildPath does not set or control the contractor's own retention practices.

Access, correction, and deletion

Who to contact depends on what you're asking about:

About how the tool generated your estimate, or information BuildPath holds directly (e.g. photos or details that were processed to create your range but never sent anywhere): contact BuildPath at [PRIVACY CONTACT EMAIL].
About your enquiry after it's been sent to a contractor (e.g. you want the contractor to delete your phone number, or correct your name): contact that contractor directly. BuildPath cannot make these changes on their behalf once the information is in their hands.

If you are not satisfied with our response to a privacy request, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.

Privacy breach notification

If a privacy breach occurs that is likely to cause serious harm, we will take reasonable steps to notify both the Office of the Privacy Commissioner and any individuals affected, in line with our obligations under New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020.

BuildPath ranges are generated from configured pricing assumptions, risk rules, and the information you provide. They are intended as general guidance only and are not a substitute for contractor review.

Unless clearly stated otherwise, customer-facing ballpark ranges are shown inclusive of GST.

No guarantee of leads or accuracy

BuildPath does not guarantee any particular volume of enquiries or leads for a contractor, nor does it guarantee that any individual estimate will be accurate for a specific project. Estimates are general guidance only, intended to give a rough starting point before a proper conversation with the contractor.

For contractors using BuildPath

Contractors are responsible for ensuring the pricing assumptions, rates, job categories, business details, contact details, and risk rules used in their BuildPath setup are accurate and suitable for their business. BuildPath does not replace the contractor's own judgement, site review, scope review, or final quoting process. Contractors are responsible for final quotes, customer follow-up, and how they store and use any leads they receive.

Payment

If you purchase BuildPath, payments may be processed by a third-party payment provider. BuildPath does not store full card details. Payment information is handled by the payment provider according to their own terms and privacy practices.
